Biographical Info

Brian Carscadden of Guelph, Ontario, Canada was born and raised on a registered Holstein farm in eastern Ontario, and graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree in May of 1994. Upon graduation, Brian was hired as a sire analyst for United Breeders of Guelph, Ontario. His duties at United Breeders included daughter photo procurement, mating program analysis and young sire acquisitions. In 1998, the Semex Alliance was formed and Brian was hired on to the newly formed Semex Alliance Sire Analyst Team where he continues today purchasing bulls across Ontario, Ohio, Kentucky, Wisconsin ,Michigan ,and Indiana as well as in the UK and Ireland. Prior to his A.I. career, Brian enjoyed many successes as a professional dairy cattle fitter, preparing cattle for top Holstein, Ayrshire and Jersey breeders around the world. Brian’s judging assignments have taken him to over 27 different countries around the world. He has judged National shows in Canada, United States,United Kingdom ,Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Uruguay, Argentina and Australia. In Europe, he has also judged major shows in France (Space), Germany (Thuringia) and Holland (HHH).I n North America, Brian has judged numerous state, provincial and county shows . In 2006 he was the associate judge at the Royal Winter Fair Holstein Show and was the official judge of the International Holstein Show at World Dairy Expo in 2008. He has judged the Red and White Holstein shows at both the Royal in 2009 and World Dairy Expo in 2010. He also officiated the Brown Swiss and Holsteins in 2009 and the Jerseys and Red and White Holsteins in 2010 at the Swiss Expo. In 2011, he was the official judge of the National Holstein Show at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto, Canada. In 2015, Brian judged the Supreme International Holstein Show in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec. A promoter of youth in agriculture, Brian remains active with various youth programs, speaking engagements and by promoting youth involvement in the annual Semex Alliance Walk of Fame at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and World Dairy Expo, which he helps to coordinate. Brian and his wife Linda live in Guelph with their 3 children Craig, Lauren and Colin.

Biographical Info

John Crowley along with his wife Cynthia and their four children, Christina, Justin, Ryan and Vanessa own and operate Crovalley Holsteins. Crovalley is located in Hastings, Ontario here they milk approximately 100 cows in a new robot facility and crop 1200 acres of land. John and his family are very passionate about showing and exhibiting their cattle at all levels of shows across Canada and the United States which has resulted in numerous All-Canadian and All-American awards. John’s hard work developing Crovalley has resulted in the herd being a two-time Master Breeder Shield recipient. Furthermore, the Crowley Family has been awarded with the Farm Family of the Year Award along with the Peterborough County Achievement Award. Off the farm, John has a love for all sports, especially hockey where he was the captain of his Junior Hockey team and received many personal awards throughout his career. He has continued his involvement hockey as a coach for many teams in the following years. John’s judging career has seen him officiate numerous 4-H shows and Championship shows across Canada. Furthermore, he has judged approximately 35 county shows across Ontario. A highlight of John’s judging career was in 2015 where he had the honour to be the Official Judge for the National Holstein Show at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Additionally, John has had the privilege to judge internationally throughout North America, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Portugal, Mexico and Spain.

Biographical Info

Dan Doner owns and operates Donelea Holsteins in Whitby, Ontario. Dan has three children, Kyle, Natalie and Ava who are a support for his love of the Holstein breed. Donelea Holsteins was established in 1975 and continued to 1999. The farm located in Cannington was sold but a small herd of animals was kept to continue marketing animals and embryos. From these animals, Donelea Holsteins received their Master Breeder Shield in 2016. After the dispersal of the farm Dan marketed embryos and live cattle worldwide and ADI Cattle Corporation was established. Dan became a sale manager for the ADI Sales Series where many prominent animals were sold to North American and European Breeders. Dan has an interest in many sports including hockey, baseball and basketball. He also loves helping 4-H members develop their showing skills and is also passionate about mentoring the next generation of Ontario’s Judges. Dan was the Past President of Ontario County Holstein Club and is the Chairman of Ontario Holstein’s Judging Committee. Dan has judged many 4 H shows locally, nationally and internationally which have included the National shows in the UK and Switzerland. He has also judged Championship Shows in the Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. Dan has had the honour of being the Official Judge of the Holstein Show at the World Dairy Expo in 2006 and the National Holstein Show at the Royal Winter Fair in 2004. Furthermore, he was the Official Judge for the Royal Winter Fair Red and White Show in 2011. Dan has also represented Holstein Canada judging internationally in Australia, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Columbia and the United States.

Biographical Info

Ken Empey along with his wife Eva along and their daughters Shasta, Ayla and Seirra live Dorchester, Ontario. Ken is an entrepreneur and an Auction Associate in Western Ontario. Ken started his career working with some of the most prestigious herds in North America, including Pinehurst, Dreamstreet and Hanover Hill Holsteins. Success with these elite herds led Ken to receive the Klussendorf Memorial Trophy in 1988, which was presented to him at World Dairy Expo. Ken has always been involved with many organizations throughout the industry, including holding the title of Past President of Ontario Holsteins and the current Chairman of the Ontario Dairy Youth Trust Fund. Furthermore, Ken was the first Canadian to be a member of the World Dairy Expo Board of Directors. Ken has enjoyed an extensive judging career officiating 4-H shows at all levels, county shows and championship shows throughout North America. A highlight of Ken’s judging career was being the Official Judge for the Holstein Show at the World Dairy Expo in 1991 and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in 1992 and 2001. Ken has also officiated at numerous international shows including Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Switzerland, Ireland, Japan, Spain, UK, Ecuador, Peru, and South Korea.

Biographical Info

Carl along with his wife Kera and three children – Clara, Carson and Weston operate Phoenixholm Holsteins. Phoenixholm is a 240 acre farm that currently milks approximately 45 purebred Holsteins with several All Canadian and All American Nominations. Prior to establishing Phoenixholm, Carl was in partnership with Phoenix Bros. where they had the honor of receiving their Master Breeder Shield. Throughout his judging career, Carl has had the opportunity to judge at some of the most prestigious shows in the world. In the past, he has had the pleasure to judge the Irish National Show, and be the Official Red and White Judge and the Associate Jersey Judge at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. He has judged the British Columbia, Calgary and Atlantic Spring shows, as well as the Ontario Jersey Spring show, Ontario Summer Jersey and Holstein shows. Other shows include the Western Canadian Classic conformation show, Wisconsin Championship Show, New York Spring Carousel, California State Show and the Brazil Spring Show. Carl also enjoys judging showmanship and has had the opportunity to officiate youth at the TD Canadian Dairy Classic Show and the World Dairy Expo. Furthermore, Carl is excited and honoured to be the Associate Judge for the World Dairy Expo Holstein Black and White show in 2017. Carl is past President of the Ontario County Holstein Club and is also a former committee member of the Ontario Dairy Youth Trust Fund. Carl is currently a 4-H leader in Durham West Region. Additionally, he is a very accomplished auctioneer.

Biographical Info

Barclay Phoenix farms in Greenbank, Ontario, Canada under the prefix Phoenix Holsteins. He has bred several All Canadian and All American Nominations, most notably Miss OCD Doorm Georgette (Supreme Junior and Junior Champion at 2018 Royal Winter Fair) as well as her sister Phoenix Sanchez Geo (All Canadian Jr 3 year old 2013). Working closely with his father Earl, they farm more than 400 acres, own 50 registered Holstein cattle, and also manage a 150-head beef cow/calf operation and a flock of 75 sheep.

Barclay is also heavily involved in showing and merchandizing elite Holstein cattle and has managed numerous sales throughout North America Including the 2018 Sale of Stars at the Royal. He has had or has merchandised over 190 All-Canadian or All-American nominations in the past 25 years.

Barclay has judged numerous shows throughout the world, including 2018 Swiss Dairy Expo, 2007 World Dairy Expo, the 2009 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and the 2013 Jersey Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. He and his wife Shelley have three children – Keaton age 14, Jaelynn age 12 and Janelle age 9.
